‘Wag the Long Tail’ in Cologne, Germany

I attended a seminar called “Wag the Long Tail” in the Rheinpalais today. Unfortunately it turned out to be not about The Long Tail at all, but more about what some refer to as “web2.0“. However I thought I’d share some images. Have a look at my set on flickr for more.

Heiko Hebig

Heiko Hebig (sorry for spelling your name wrong on twitter!) gave the best and by far the most honest and professional presentation, even showing off twitter. (Too bad it did not have much to do about The Long Tail, though)

Ehrensenf

And then there was Ehrensenf (sort of a German rocketboom – not that relevant or funny anymore). Not too sure what they had to contribute, though. Truth be told we left before they got to say anything profound. Sorry you guys, but I’d had about enough at that time.

Ustream.tv registration form does not play nice

I’ve been trying to register on ustream.tv since yesterday, but I keep getting an incredulous error message when entering the captcha correctly:

ustream registration form

I’m on Win XP using Firefox 2.0.0.6. I’ve tried c leaning the cache. I’ve tried everything. It fails to accept a correct captcha on every session.

Is this happening to you too or is it just me? Am I an idiot doing something wrong? Leave me a comment and tell me how it’s working out for you!

Do you backup?

I was reading Chris Pirillo‘s latest blog entry about backup and file management this morning and it inspired me to share what I do to back up and mirror the important stuff. (Watch the show featuring Chris’ dad if you haven’t already.)

The hardware: Two cheap and identical 500 GB external USB hard drives from TrekStor. € 99,- / USD 135,- each.

The software: MirrorFolder for Windows XP from TechSoft. € 28,5 / USD 39,- per computer license. (If anyone knows of a better software solution for mirroring and for other platforms, please leave a comment!)

Important files and folders on my workstation(s) and laptop are set to be automatically mirrored on both of the external disks. Projects, music, settings, etc are all mirrored on both of the disks for redundancy. So in event that one hard drive breaks down, it doesn’t automatically translate to an entire loss of backup data.

Another clear advantage of keeping redundant external drive backup is that I can take one of the disks with me on the move without worrying too much about data loss.

Works for me ™.

What do you do? Please share your experiences and leave a comment!

Ninja vs Pirate

As I was reading the latest blog entry from Eric ‘Spin’ Rice this morning, it struck me that I’m wearing a matching t-shirt today. I thought I’d share so I snapped a picture with an old Ixus 430 laying around.

Ninja vs Pirate

I’m currently a management ninja. I get in there and get the job done swiftly and stealthy for my corporate overlords. When I pull out, nobody knows what I did and nobody noticed that I was there. The only thing people notice is their problem has somehow magically gone away, their will has been done, their agendas executed by an invisible ghostly hand.

What are you?

Plone Spotting Competition

Yes, it’s Friday again folks! I thought I’d hold yet another unsuccessful amazing competition: Send me your snapshots (or link to an image in the comments) of anything vaguely Plone-like and you might win a quality tee in your size of choice with an image of the never before publicized Plone alpha interface! The winners and runners up will be published here by next Friday.

I try to spot Plone logos whenever I’m out and about. Have a look at my Plone set on flickr to see more examples.
